Heavenly Father, Micah 6:8 tells us exactly what you require of us and what is good for us. You desire for us to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you. Lord, we acknowledge that we are not able to do this apart from you. We aren’t good without you. We aren’t able to do good apart from you. All good things come from you. Psalm 16:2 tells us that we have no good thing apart from you. Help us, Father, to believe deep down that you are the greatest good, the only good, that we can seek. Forgive us for seeking solutions and satisfaction elsewhere.
As we look at the world around us, help us to be merciful and compassionate. Help us to act and speak with gentleness. Jesus, if each of us would truly start by looking inward and see the complete wrongness and brokenness of our own sin, we would treat others with graciousness. Help us to be sickened by our own sin. Help us to allow your light into our hearts and minds so that that which is hidden may be uncovered. May we not run from the difficult things we will see in our own hearts, but help us mourn over our own brokenness and hunger for righteousness. Then, may we become agents of justice, fountains of mercy, and images of humility.
It is only by your Holy Spirit that this is possible. Come, Holy Spirit, and do your tender work in our lives. We look around this world and know that it is not as it should be. We see all that is wrong. Yet, in you, it all can be restored. It can be made right. We come before you humbly, Father, and ask that you would start with us. We need you, Jesus.
Amen
