Tell the Coming Generation

Through studying the Bible, we learn to put our trust in God.

Bible Reading: Psalm 78:1-8

78 Give ear, O my people, to my teaching;
    incline your ears to the words of my mouth!
I will open my mouth in a parable;
    I will utter dark sayings from of old,
things that we have heard and known,
    that our fathers have told us.
We will not hide them from their children,
    but tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,
    and the wonders that he has done.

He established a testimony in Jacob
    and appointed a law in Israel,
which he commanded our fathers
    to teach to their children,
that the next generation might know them,
    the children yet unborn,
and arise and tell them to their children,
    so that they should set their hope in God
and not forget the works of God,
    but keep his commandments;
and that they should not be like their fathers,
    a stubborn and rebellious generation,
a generation whose heart was not steadfast,
    whose spirit was not faithful to God.

Reading Questions: What does God command parents to teach their children? What are God’s deeds? What are God’s statutes? Why are parents to teach their children the deeds and statutes of God? What will happen if children fail to learn the deeds and statutes of God? Why will that happen?

Journal Writing: What is an important truth from the Bible reading? Why do you need to know that truth?

Application Prayer: Write out a prayer for God’s insight and help into how you can apply the truth from the reading.

Week’s Memory Verse: Mark 12:29-31

Through God’s Word, we learn how to love God with our entire being.

29“The most important commandment,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.

  1. I’m continually grateful for God’s word that shows us who he is and the way we are to go. What a blessing to know him and what is right and true. May we be faithful to share with the next generation.

  2. Forgive me, Lord, because I am so forgetful, and thank you, Lord, that you gave me your Word so that I can always be reminded of your goodness. Reading your Word keeps you in the forefront of my mind. As you fill my thoughts, may you be magnified through me.
