Source of Our Peace – Prayer

Psalm 11:1-7

In the Lord I take refuge.
    How then can you say to me:
    “Flee like a bird to your mountain.
For look, the wicked bend their bows;
    they set their arrows against the strings
to shoot from the shadows
    at the upright in heart.
When the foundations are being destroyed,
    what can the righteous do?”

The Lord is in his holy temple;
    the Lord is on his heavenly throne.
He observes everyone on earth;
    his eyes examine them.
The Lord examines the righteous,
    but the wicked, those who love violence,
    he hates with a passion.
On the wicked he will rain
    fiery coals and burning sulfur;
    a scorching wind will be their lot.

For the Lord is righteous,
    he loves justice;
    the upright will see his face.

Prayer

Lord, thank you that you are the source of peace and harmony. Thank you that when we abide in you we are able to do what pleases you. Thank you that in you alone lies all goodness and righteousness.

May we as a people put aside our selfish interests and submit ourselves to you so that we treat one another in a respectful and honorable way. May we die to selfish ambition and vain conceit so that we are filled with your love and compassion for others.

Lord, we acknowledge our need for you and recognize that apart from you there is no good thing. May we see that when we think our own thoughts rather than your thoughts, we only bring harm to others. Purify us Lord so that we want to do what is right to do.

Lord We Need You

Lord may the anger and discontent among and inside us cause us to see how much we need you. May we see clearly that we will never find satisfaction in life unless we acknowledge and seek you. Lord, may we understand that the emptiness and hollowness of our souls can only be filled by you.

Uncover please the deceptive ideas in this land that keep us from knowing you and your truth. May we recognize the outcome of where wrong ideas take us, the consequences of believing things that aren’t true. Thank you that your truth is good and that believing and following you will take us to a good place and enable us to live a full and satisfying life. Enable us to see you and be grateful for all that you have provided.

May we humbly lay ourselves at your feet and acknowledge you for who you are and see ourselves for who we are in comparison. We need you Lord to work in us and in our land.

Amen
