Science and the Bible

Science and the Bible shouldn’t contradict one another.

Bible Reading: Psalm 19:1-4

19The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words,
    whose voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,

Reflection: Science is the systematized study of the natural world through observation and experimentation. Should science and the Bible contradict one another?  Why not?  Why do people want to leave God out of the study of science?  Why is an understanding of God critical to a right understanding of science?  A presupposition is something that is assumed to be true beforehand or is taken for granted.  What happens if you study science with a presupposition that there is no God or that God or that God has no supernatural power?  What is evolution?  How do you know if something you read is coming from an evolutionary viewpoint?  Why can’t creation and evolution both be true?  If evolution were true, what would that mean to our faith?  Why? What would it mean about our purpose in life? Why?

Journal Writing: What is an important truth from the reflection? Why do you need to know that truth?

Application Prayer: Write out a prayer for God’s insight and help into how you can apply the truth from the reflection.

Week’s Memory Verse:  Romans 1:20

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
