Remember

Lord, on this day we remember the tragedy that struck our land and the lives that were lost when the Twin Towers collapsed. Thank you for the first responders who gave their lives to try to rescue others. Thank you for the courage they displayed in their willingness to put their lives on the line to fulfill their duty to others.

Lord, may we remember the lost condition of those who thought that the killing of innocent civilians was a good thing. May we pray for those who follow a deceptive philosophy and want to tear down and destroy rather than build up and bless. Lord, please work in the midst of the billions of people who are held captive by wrong understanding and live in darkness without the presence of your light.

Lord, in remembering what transpired on this day, may we want to live in a way that shows your goodness and mercy. May we respond to hate with love and compassion. May we combat the lies people believe with the love of you and your truth.

Lord, make us into the people you want us to be so that others see you through us. Lord, we can’t be good on our own, but we can be good as we give ourselves to you and you transform us into your likeness. We recognize that if we turn our backs on you we are capable of the same evil that we condemn others for doing.

Lord, please humble us individually and as a nation so we recognize how much we need you. Purify us from our self-righteousness and arrogance so become humble before you. Lord, enable us to see the depth of our need for you. Give us a willingness to submit to you and your authority. Make us into the people you desire us to be, we pray.

Amen
