Beginning of Wisdom

Lord, you say in your word that the fear of you is the beginning of wisdom and that knowledge of you is understanding. Lord, if we fear you that means that we know who you are and understand our accountability to you. We know that we will answer to you for the things we think, say and do. Knowing we will stand before you puts us on the path to wisdom, as we understand our need to follow in your way.

Lord, may we want to know you more. May we want to follow your path and do what pleases you. May we hunger for you and what is right and good. May we recognize that apart from you we have no good thing and no clear understanding.

Lord, enable us to see the ideas we believe that are not of you. Help us to see that wisdom only comes through knowing and doing what is right and good. You alone are the author of truth and we can never be wise apart from knowing and submitting to your word.

Thank you Lord that you have given us the light of your truth to illuminate our minds and direct us in your way. Thank you that life goes well when we understand what pleases you and desire to do it. Thank you that your Spirit works in us and enables us to follow your path. Thank you Lord that you have not left us alone.

Lord, as we are bombarded with so many ideas that are not of you, may we have discernment to recognize truth from lies, beneficial ideas from hollow, deceptive ones. May we be receptive to what is of you and turn away from what isn’t. May your truth inform our minds, direct our steps and protect us. May we be faithful to speak your words of wisdom and understanding even when those around us don’t want to hear them. Thank you Lord for your goodness and light.

Amen
